Taisho Pond (Taishoike) was formed in Taisho 4 (i.e.1915) when an eruption of Mt. Yakedake blocked Azusa River.
Back then, it was such a large pond so that it had been called “Azusa Lake” instead. However over the years, it was called “Taisho pond” and become one of the most popular scenic points in Kamikochi.
On the surface of the water, mountain ranges is reflected against the clear sky, with the view of the trees standing withered or being sunken over 100 years ago.

KAMIKOCHI POINT 03

Myojin Pond

Mysterious atmosphere surrounded by a coniferous forest

Myojin Pond is a pond consisting of a large pond and a smaller pond. By the edge of the ponds, a shrine Hodaka Jinja Okumiya, which is considered to be the general guardian of the Japanese Alps, stands peacefully. The pond does not entirely freeze over even in the winter because underground water is always flowing from Mt. Myojin.
You have wonderful mirror reflections of the vastness of the clear sky.
This place is so magical, peaceful and very beautiful with a stunning pond placed with the large underwater rocks in Larch forest.
