Takayama, Gifu Prefecture

A city that has become the largest city in Japan since 2005, Takayama, and its area is equivalent to the entire Tokyo metropolis. Since Tayakama used to be a capital of Hida-no-kuni province, it is often called a small Kyoto of Hida Region. The city of which the traditional merchants’ culture is still alive even today has various tourist attractions.

Miyagawa Asaichi

It Is composed of more than 60 stalls selling various fresh vegetables, fruits, and Japanese pickled vegetables on the 350-meter (1148 ft) long river side of Miyagawa River that floats in the center of the city.

Takayama Jinya

This used to be a local governor’s office during the Edo period (1603 – 1868.) There once were more than 60 buildings similar to Takayama Jinya in Japan, however it is the only one existing today.

Miyagawa Asaichi

Rickshaw or Jinriki-sha is a traditional, small and light vehicle with two wheels that is pulled by one person on foot. Ride a rickshaw and enjoy the view of the old town with the energetic and tough rickshaw guy’s guidance!

Miyagawa Asaichi

Let’s experience and learn what Japan looked like in the 1950s-1960s of Showa Era (1926-1989)! Lose yourself among the delightful mishmash of endless objects, from movie posters to cars and everything between, lovingly presented in a series of themed rooms.

Takayama is also known for its delicious local cuisines. Here is just a few of the recommended foods.

Shirakawa-go, Gifu Prefecture

Village of Shirakawa-go was registered as an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1995 for being “a remarkable example of the view or accumulations of a certain form of buildings and architectural techniques that illustrate a certain period of time, which is highly important in the history of human beings.”
The center of the Gassho-zukuri communities is in the slightly northern side of the central area: Ogimachi District. You will learn the wisdom of traditional ways of living together with nature at the interactive facilities or historical museums of the local traditional cultures.

To go inside those Gassho-zukuri houses, an admission for a Gassho-zukuri farmhouse is required.

Deai Bridge

Deai Bridge connects the Gassho village of Shirakawa-go and the Seseragi Parking Lot. Tourists will cross this bridge to arrive at Shirakawa-go. The miraculous bridge may make you feel as if you are travelling back in time from modern society.
